- Ensure that the walls have been properly prepared before tiling starts.
- Ensure that the tiles are all correct in shade, and sizes.
- The walls must be flat, clean and dry.
- Any dust, dirt, oil, grease or any other loose material must be removed by mechanical means.
- Make sure that you have all the right tools handy. Example porcelain tiles: Diamond wet tile cutter
- Prepare the adhesive.
- Only mix the amount of adhesive that you can use at that time.
- Make sure that when you put adhesive on the wall/floor that you spread it equally. (DO NOT PUT SOME ADHESIVE ON THE TILE AND THEN STICK IT ON TO THE WALL, because of the fact that the adhesive won’t be spread equally, which can cause tile’s falling of the wall, tile movement on the floor, tiles cracking etc.
- Make sure that the tiles are straight, if not move the tile so that they are straight. And hold them there firmly. It is advisable to use spacers to govern the space required in between the tiles.
- Clean of the entire excess adhesive from the tile and tile joints immediately. As removing adhesive on a later stage can cause difficulties.
- Do not fix tiles beneath 5ºC or damp conditions.
For tiling on wooden/plasterboard / ply board & tile on tile floors and walls, you should use flexible adhesive
There are different ways of getting flexible adhesive.
- The easy way, you can use a pre mixed tile adhesive bag/bucket
- You can use normal adhesive (bag/bucket) and mix it with flexible additive, to make it flexible.
For tile on tile it is advisable to use a flexible additive, it will be more durable and stronger.
For tiling on floors on existing timber floors.
Make sure that you lay a ply board of a minimum of 15 mm and screw it down at 300 mm centers.
- First prima the floor (2 layers minimum)
- Then use the flexible additive or our flexible adhesive, Set Fast Plus.
For tiling on new timber floors.
Ensure that you lay a ply board of a minimum of 18 mm and screw it down tight at 300 mm centers.
You should use the 2-Part Rapidset Flex
